Printmaking Monotype Relief workshops

Lunar Horizon Printmaking Workshops

The Printmaking workshops can only be presented at Lunar Horizons LLC.

Lunar Horizons studio located at 9108 State Route 3, Vermontville, NY 12989

Monotype, in printmaking, a technique that generally yields only one good impression from each prepared plate. Monotypes are prized because of their unique textural and painterly qualities. They are made by making a variety of marks on  a plate of smooth metal or plexi-glass with printing ink. Once satisfied with the plate a sheet of paper is placed on top.  The plate is then run through an etching press or may be hand printed using a flat circular tool.

Those new to the medium will learn multiple monotype techniques that include inking directly on a plate and the different papers that are used. Use of the encaustic wax method, stencil overlays and linoleum blocks are used in the monotype print process. Basic compositional principles, color combinations are demonstrated throughout the workshop to help each participant successfully complete a series of their very own monotypes!

Inks are water based. Professional artists who would like to rent studio space and prefer oil based inks are welcome to bring their own inks and other necessary materials.

Studio use with instruction: 65/hour (need based/hour) Press time: 15/hour, Artist materials and paper not included. Essential printmaking tools available.
